ACSI CAPS Info Day.

On Friday 20 May ACSI hosted a national CAPS Info Day at The King’s School West Rand in Roodepoort.

The Mc Kinsey report “How the best schools come out on top” (2007) found that internationally the performance of a school is determined first and foremost by what happens in the classroom.

There are, of-course several other variables and requirements involved as well, but enthusiastic and well skilled teachers can often overcome constraints. ACSI values its teachers and recognizes that they are the people who will effectively prepare our students for life. Considering the fact that professional development is important and Life Long Learning is an ACSI Expected Outcome we thought it in the best interest of our teachers to host this One Day Enabler.

The Department of Basic Education has issued Circular S3 of 2010 dated 17 November 2010 outlining the implementation dates for the introduction of the CAPS. In Government Gazette 33952 of 24 January 2011 the Minister also gives notice of a proposed change in policy that will affect every school, teacher and learner. ACSI is aware of the fact that the final documents are not yet finalized and available (This will, we believe, happen in September or October this year) but we feel it is vital to keep our schools informed so that they can start preparing for the changes in the curriculum.

As soon as the official documents are released by the Department of Education ACSI will inform you via the ACSI Monthly Newsletter. ACSI will also be doing CAPS training towards the end of 2011 start of 2012.
