National Education Policy Act, 1996 (Act 27 of 1996): Draft Department of Basic Education National Policy on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and TB
On 5 May 2015, the Minister of Basic Education published the draft National Policy on HIV, STIs and TB.
The goals of the draft National Policy are to :
- a) accelerate implementation of a comprehensive strategy for the pre vention, diagnosis, treatment, care and support for those affected by HIV, STIs or TB;
- b) increase knowledge and information that enhance life skills that can prevent the transmission and / or mitigate the effects of HIV, STIs or TB;
- c) inform the life choices of all learners, educators, support staff and officials; and
- d) increase retention of learners, educators, school support staff and officials in a safe and protective education environment .
